A practical, trauma-informed framework that strengthens safety, accountability and cultural responsiveness.
The SVA Safeguarding Framework was developed to support organisations to create environments where children, young people, and vulnerable people are safe, supported and heard. Grounded in national standards, trauma-informed practice and cultural safety, the framework provides clear guidance for leaders, practitioners and boards on how to embed safeguarding across systems, culture and everyday practice.
Designed in partnership with sector leaders, practitioners and community partners, the framework is practical, accessible and tailored to the realities of human services work. It supports organisations to strengthen safeguarding capability, uplift practice, and build a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility.
What the Framework Includes
Clear safeguarding principles
A set of foundational principles that guide safe, ethical and trauma-informed practice across all levels of an organisation.
Practical tools and templates
Easy-to-use tools that support consistent, high-quality safeguarding practice, including checklists, decision-making guides, reporting tools and supervision prompts.
Guidance for leaders and boards
Clear expectations for governance, accountability and oversight, helping leaders create the conditions for safe practice and strong safeguarding culture.
Culturally responsive approaches
Guidance developed in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners and community leaders to make sure safeguarding is culturally safe, respectful and community-led.
Continuous improvement pathways
A structured approach to assessing current capability, identifying gaps and planning for sustainable improvement.
Why We Created It
Across decades of frontline practice, government leadership and national reform, we saw the same challenges repeated:
- safeguarding expectations that were unclear or inconsistently applied
- practitioners wanting to do the right thing but lacking practical tools
- organisations unsure how to embed safeguarding beyond policy
- cultural safety not meaningfully integrated into safeguarding systems
- leaders needing clearer guidance on governance and accountability.
Our Safeguarding Framework was created to bridge these gaps, offering a practical, trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach that organisations can use every day.
How Organisations Use the Framework
Organisations across the human services sector use the framework to:
- strengthen safeguarding culture
- uplift practice capability
- guide supervision and reflective practice
- support onboarding and workforce development
- assess organisational safeguarding maturity
- align with national child safe standards
- strengthen governance and accountability
- respond to incidents and identify system improvements.
It is designed to be flexible and adaptable, supporting organisations of all sizes and contexts.
Impact
Our Safeguarding Framework has supported organisations to:
- strengthen safeguarding systems and culture
- uplift workforce capability
- improve consistency and quality of practice
- enhance cultural safety
- build clearer governance and accountability
- create safer environments for children, young people and vulnerable people
It has been used across government, community organisations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led services and multi-service providers.
Queensland Kids Partnership, on behalf of our host organisation ARACY, the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth, engaged Social Vantage Advisory (SVA) to undertake a safeguarding review and support our organisation to strengthen our approach to keeping children and young people safe.
SVA brings a strong depth of expertise and a practical, supportive approach to the work. They took the time to understand our organisation, worked closely with our team, and created a space where we could openly reflect on what was working well and where we needed to grow. The insights and recommendations provided were clear, realistic and immediately useful. SVA is helping us achieve our aspiration to embed safeguarding meaningfully into our culture, systems and day-to-day practice, and not just treat this as a compliance requirement.
We particularly value their collaborative style, their respect for our context, and their ability to translate complex safeguarding requirements into practical actions. We would highly recommend SVA to any organisation looking to strengthen their safeguarding capability in a genuine and sustainable way.
